BLOGMAS Day 15: Book Review - Their First Family Christmas

Hello Lovelies!
Today I will be reviewing 'Their First Family Christmas' by Alison Roberts, copy received from Netgalley via Harlequin in exchange for an honest review.

'Their Fitst Family Christmas' is a romacne novel, it is 256 pages long and it took me about three hours to read. It is available at Amazon ( Kindle) $4.99,  Barnes & Noble (NOOKBook).

About The Book

Genre: Medical Romance

Length: 256 Pages

Publisher: Harlequin

Release Date: November 1, 2016

Book Synopsis
Her Christmas past becomes her Christmas present!

When Dr. Emma Matthews was entrusted with the guardianship of her best friend's daughter, she promised that every Christmas would be special...But this Christmas Eve, Jack Reynolds - her old flame and Lily's Uncle - has walked back into their lives.

Both Emma and Jack still bear the scars of this time last year. But now Jack wants to start again - being there for his adorable niece, picking up where he an Emma left off, and giving them all the family Christmas they deserve!

What did I think? 4.5 Stars

Like: The Honesty.
Dislike: Undecided.

Would I recommend it?
I love how open and honest the two main characters were with each other. It seems here lately, with most of the books I've been reading, a lot of the characters problems would be solved if they would just communicate and be honest.

I'm kind of undecided on what I think about the ending, I'm glad there was an epilogue, but I feel like the story before the epilogue was cut short, I feel like it needed a few more pages.

Overall, I really liked this book and I'm interested in reading more from the author!

Thank you Harlequin via Netgalley for providing me with this book in exchange for an honest review!
Will you be buying this book? Let me know below!

BLOGMAS Day 12: December Playlist

Hello Lovelies!
It's been a while since I've done a monthly playlist, I wanna say the last one I did was back in the summer! I'm definitely not listening to the same things I was then.

Right now I  have to say my favorite song is Closer by The Chainsmokers! I can't get enough, I'm obsessed with this song!

And of course, my two holiday favorite songs are Where Are You Christmas by Faith Hill and Greatest Time of Year by Aly & AJ! These two songs have been on my holiday playlist for years!

Here's the rest of my December Playlist!

Where Are You Christmas // Faith Hill
Greatest Time of Year // Aly & AJ
Closer // The Chainsmokers
You're A Mean One Mr. Grinch // Jordan Smith
The Christmas Song // Andy Williams
Jingle Bells // Kenny Chesney
Santa Baby // Kellie Pickler
Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas // Kelly Clarkson

What are you listening to this month? Let me know below!

BLOGMAS Day 8: Gifts for Her

Hello Lovelies!
Continuing with this week's theme of holiday gift guides, today is for the ladies! I might suck at shopping for guys, but I'm pretty good at gift buying for women.

I've actually bought a few of these and love them, so I had to share them!

The Clinique Moisture Surge overnight mask is really good for sensitive skin. I have combo/oily skin but my cheeks tend to get really dry during the winter. I tried a sample of this mask earlier this year and loved it!

I got a sample of the Black Opium from Ulta last month and I'm in love!

The Hand Food lotion in the Soap and Glory set is amazing, I really want to try the foot cream too.

What are you buying for the ladies in your life this year?

BLOGMAS Day 6: Gifts for Him

Hello Lovelies!
Sorry this is so late in the day, but it's been a crazy day! I started off at the podiatrist this morning and he put me in a walking boot for my foot. After I got home, I had to wait all day for the cable man to come, finally my TV is fixed. no more missing channels. While he was working I got distracted trying to clean my little cousins room in my house. She always leaves it a mess and he needed to get to the TV.

Anyway, men are so hard to shop for, I had such a hard time creating this post, but I wanted to write it for other women who have a hard time shopping for men.

My favorite is the glasses set and I also really like the Ted Baker London Watch!

Any advice on shopping for men? Leave it below!

BLOGMAS Day 5: December + Goals

Hello Lovelies!
It's been pretty quiet this year on Writing My Story, it's been an insane year. I've been so busy and this year has just flown by, I keep trying to catch up and it just hasn't happened.

Even though I've been crazy busy I've decided to go out of 2016 with a bang! Keeping with tradition last week I started this years BLOGMAS!
Clean my room at least once a week.
I've been doing good here lately so I'm hoping I can keep it up and keep it clean.

Blog consistently throughout December.
I'm gonna give it a shot this year and see if I can keep up with the schedule I made!

Get my nose pierced?
I've been going back and forth on this for years! I was going to do it last week when I got my bonus from work, but I had to make my car payment, so it didn't happen.

Have a Christmas movie night.
I love Christmas movies, I love all the old classic cartoons and of course my favorite is The Grinch!!!

Finish the paperback book I'm reading.
I really need to finish Catching Fire and I also started re-reading Pretty Little Liars!

Get back in the gym.
Now that I'm out of physical therapy I want to get back in a normal gym routine!

Organize and declutter my closet
I can't believe I'm admitting this, but I still haven't got my winter clothes out yet! It finally started getting colder here about two weeks ago, so far I haven't needed a heavy coat during the day. However, I've been working a lot of 1-10's and so when I leave work at night I'm freezing, so I really need to find my coat and put it in my car!

Start stretching again.
I quit going to physical therapy last month, I felt like I wasn't improving enough to justify spending 2-3 hours there 2-3 days a week. I can do the stretches here and home. I haven't noticed that big of a difference since I quit going, but I do thing it will help loosen me back up.

Give Khan Academy a try.
I really want to improve my math skills, I want to brush up on old skills and master new skills. Also I love history, so I'm hoping their History courses will be what I'm looking for!

Find time to enjoy Christmas music this year.
Last year between working and everyday life I didn't get to listen to a lot of Christmas music. I love Christmas music, so I want to make the time to listen to it and enjoy it this year!

Be more active on social media.
I've been working on this  here recently, I've been trying really hard with twitter, I try to queue enough posts for a week on Tumblr. My problem area seems to be Instagram!

What are your goals for this month?

Currently: November 2016

Hello Lovelies!
It's been a while, probably a year actually, since I last did a Currently post. I'm not sure why I stopped doing them, I've always had fun with it, it's a quick easy post, and I get to share with you what's going on.

So here's what's going on in my life this month!

Blogmas Day 8: December Update

Hello Lovelies!
I hope you're all doing well, today I have an update for you. I've been mostly absent for the past three months and I'm trying to get back into the flow of things.

I wish I could say I've been off on an amazing adventure, but that's not the truth. The truth is I was burnout on everything. I was working so hard trying to juggle work, school, and blogging five days a week that I wasn't taking care of me.

To be honest I'm still working on taking care of me, but we're getting there. A few different things have been going on that I haven't been able to share with y'all, so why not get it out in the open now?

Back in June my back started hurting really bad, so I went to the doctor, two x-rays, an MRI, a trip to Nashville, and a neurosurgeon eventually gave me the diagnosis of early Degenerative Disc Disease in August. Right now we're treating with physical therapy, and I go back to the doctor in Nashville next month, if it's not better (which it's not) then I'll probably have to get a steroid shot in my back.

On top of all that I had blood work done in August and I was anemic, again, my doctor is retesting me next week and if it I'm still anemic she mentioned the possibility of me needing an iron infusion, which I'm really not looking forward to.

To top it all off last night I dropped my laptop (15.6") on my foot and I'm pretty sure I broke my little toe. It really hurts and I'm really not looking forward to putting on shoes!

Reading: Trail of Secrets by Eileen Goudge
I've read this book many times before and I'm reading it again, it's an old favorite of mine.

Watching: Dr.Seuss' How The Grinch Stole Christmas
This is my all time favorite Christmas movie, I watch it year round and I can't get enough!

Listening to: Christmas Music

Dreaming Of: A Wonderful Christmas
Sadly I have to work Christmas Eve, which means I'll miss getting to see my family, open presents, and eating a warm meal. But hopefully Christmas Day will be good even though it won't be the same.

Planning: For the future.
I'm working on a few different things right now with school, work, and blogging. I'm trying to get everything done and I honestly don't have enough time to do any of it.

Trying: A new recipe!
A few days ago at work a woman came through my line and she told me about a two ingredient fudge recipe.

Goal Setting: At least 10 blog posts for December.
I want to have at least 10 blog posts for the month of December, I would love to do more, but 10 would make me happy.

I know I'm a week late, but I'm going to do my best to finish Blogmas and do as many posts as I possibly can this month!

That's all for today and I will definitely have a post up tomorrow!

Lori

Blogmas Day 18: Holiday Survival Kit

Hello lovelies,
Today I have for you my Holiday Survival Kit! For me the holidays are mostly amazing, however I am an introvert and I need time by myself to relax and rewind, so I decided to put together a few things that help me get through the holidays with the least amount of stress! Enjoy!

Relaxation
When I'm at home you will find me lounging around in a sweater and either yoga pants or leggings! I like to be comfortable, so I recommend finding that one outfit that you can be comfortable in whether you're alone, or if you have guests over.

My ideal time to relax is late at night in bed with my favorite sweater. I love the look of this sweater from Etsy and I want to buy one in every color!

These were actually recommended to me by my doctor years ago! I really like that these come in a variety of color which makes them perfect for wearing around the house to add a pop of color!

Who doesn't need a good pair of slippers? They're perfect for wearing around the house and they keep your feet nice and warm!

Effortless, Quick, and Easy Make-Up
I love playing around with different make-up styles, however I also have a go-to routine that insures I can get my makeup done in less than 10 minutes. I recommend finding a routine that you can do quickly and that compliments your facial features!

Here's an idea for a quick and easy make-up look this holiday season!
I always do my eyes first so that if I have any fall-out I can clean it up without messing anything else up.

Start with an eye pencil. I chose this Laura Mercier Caviar Stick Eye Color in the color Cocoa $28.00. I would apply this close to the eyelash line and then either use your fingers or a brush and smudge it out.

Then, eyeliner, I chose this Kat Von D Tattoo Liner $18.00. Apply this like you would any other eyeliner, you can choose to keep it simple, or you can wing it out, your choice!

Then you would apply mascara and your eyes would be done!

After applying your foundation you can go in with your bronzer, blush, or highlighter, if you want.

Then the lips, for an everyday natural look I would just apply lip balm. But if you wanted to go a little more festive I would recommend the NARS Satin Lip Pencil in Luxembourg $22.50 !

That's it for lips, and you're done! Of course with everything I've listed above you can use your fingers to apply, but personally I prefer to use make-up brushes, so I would recommend the It Cosemtics Your Face & Eye Essentials Mini 5pc Travel Brush Set $30!

Extras
I chose to include a few extras for you to consider this holiday season!

I think this it's a good idea to keep something sweet on standby just in case someone gets low blood sugar. I also think these would be a really cute idea to hand out to your guests as little gifts before they leave.

I gotta admit I am a candle hoarder! I love candles, I can't get enough, if I'm in a store I can't pass the cand;e isle without stopping to smell at least one! One of my favorite candle brands is definitely Yankee Candle, my favorite scent is definitely Vanilla Cupcake and French Vanilla. I would recommend you get a few good candles this season to help you relax, to use as gifts, or just to make your house smell amazing!

I don't know about you, but I always forget someone on my Christmas list. I would highly recommend you buy a few extra gifts to have sitting around just in case!

Sadly this camera is sold out, but it still serves it's purpose in this post. Make sure you have a camera nearby, even if you think you don't need it because you have your phone, get a camera, you don't want to risk missing out on taking a photo you'll remember forever.

So that is it for my little survival guide! I don't know about you, but I really enjoyed sharing with  you that quick make-up look! What did you think? If you want me to do more like it, let me know below!
What's in your Holiday Survival Kit?

My Favorite Holiday Movies

Hello lovelies,
Every year from November 1st through to the end of December if I'm watching TV, it better be a Christmas movie! I have a slight obsession with ABC Family's 25 Days of Christmas! I also tend to constantly have my TV on hallmark, their movies may be a bit cheesy, but I love it!

Because I've spent the past month and a half watching only Christmas movies, I have a few recommendations for you! Most of them you've probably seen, but I thought I'd go ahead and show them to you anyway!

Dr. Seuss' How The Grinch Stole Christmas
I love the Grinch, it is by far my favorite Christmas movie, I watch it every year!

Elf
Who doesn't love buddy the elf?

The Polar Express
I love this one because it's something I can watch with my baby cousin and she won't get scared by it!

The Santa Clause, The Santa Clause 2, The Santa Clause 3: The Escape Clause
I love all three of the Santa Clause movies, my favorite is the third movie, I have it on DVD and I watch it all year round.

Home Alone & Home Alone 2: Lost In New York
I grew up watching the Home Alone movies and I still love them!

Christmas With the Kranks
I love Tim Allen and Jamie Lee Curtis on their own, but they're even better together!

Matchmaker Santa
This is a Hallmark movie starring Lacey Chabert, it's probably one of my favorite Hallmark movie, it's a really cute holiday romance and I love it!

What are your favorite Christmas movies?

Blogmas Day 11: Under $100 Holiday Gift Guide

Hello lovelies,
Today I have for you my Under $100 Holiday Gift Guide! I have lots of goodies for you today, and I'm so happy I can finally share them with you!

Let's get started!

Clinique Sonic System Purifying Cleansing Brush $89.50
I've had my eye on this brush for a while, I love Clinique and I love the design of this brush. I've been wanting this for about a year, the only problem is I already have a brush by another brand and even though I want it, I really don't need it.

Anne Klein Hinge Case Watch, 32mm $55.00
The one thing I really want for Christmas this year is a watch, I don't have any watches, and I really want to get a nice watch before I go off to college next year.

Hunter Original Ballet Flats $89.00 Final Sale
I'm in desperate need of a new pair of flats, the problem is I can't find any that come in my size and that give my feet the support they need. Unfortunately because these are final sale they no longer have my size, but I decided to go ahead and include them in case any of you can find your size, it's a great deal and they have five colors, enjoy!

The Fine Pearls 6-7mm Black Akoya Pearl Earrings AAA Quality $58.00
When you think of pearls you don't think of black pearls, you think of pretty white or cram colored pearls. That's why I love this pair of earrings, you still get your traditional pearls, just with a twist!

Urban Decay Naked 3 Eyeshadow Palette $54.00
I really love the rosy colors in this palette, I never really was a fan of the Naked 2 palette, but I immediately fell in love with the Naked 3 as soon as I saw the first pictures after it's release!

Nordstrom at Home 'Deer Date' Plush Throw $38.00
I really love this Red Earth/Cream Turtledove color, I love buying soft blankets, and this one is so cute, plus at the moment it's actually on sale for  $28.49!

Nordstrom Buffalo Plaid Cashmere Scarf $99.50
I've always loved buffalo plaid, so the fact that it's super trendy right now makes me really happy! This cashmere scarf would be perfect for that special guy on your list that you want to keep warm and toasty this winter! ;)

J. Crew JD Wolfe Heart Bowels $36.00
When I first saw these bowels my first impression was oh my God those are so cute! Then when I saw the price my mind was blown, I was expecting these to be over $100, I think this would be the perfect gift for anyone who's just got a new place!

Tuckernuck Christmas Sweater Needlepoint Flask $65.00
I don't think there's any explanation needed for this one!

Barefoot Dreams 'Cozy Chic' Multi-Stripe Throw $98.00
I love the color combo on this throw!

Ted Baker London 'Small Bow' Cosmetics Case $45.00
I love this Mid Pink color, it's so bright and fun, the only thing I would worry about is keeping it clean.

Tory Burch 'Evie' Faux Pearl Stud Earring $68.0
I've had my eyes on these for a few months now and my love for them still has faded! They look so classy and timeless and I'm in love!

Torrid Strappy Riding Boot (Wide Width) $70.00
I love the design of these boots, they're exactly what I've been searching for and I love that they aren't a shiny black, it's more of a matte black, which makes them even more versatile! AND they have my size! Honestly, my bank account hates me, and I hate it because it doesn't have enough money in there to buy them, college applications and the ACT are killing me! *Finds a corner to go cry in*

Renne Rouleau Cio Calm Repair Masque $52.00
I'm really interested in trying this masque, the only thing stopping me from buying it is the price tag and the fact that I'm scared my sensitive skin will have a bad reaction to it.

Scout Miss Manors Blackout Scout $59.00
So I've already mentioned that I want to buy a watch before going off to college, I also want to invest in a really good bag. I found this bag a few months ago and I still haven't found anything else that tops it! I decided to include this because of the price and because with an extra $12.00 you can personalize it!

Fashion to Figure Plus Size Glenda Glitter Dress $44.50
I'm in love with this dress, I love the color, the ruching under the bust, and the length!

Before I sign off for today I did want to mention that one a few of these items the prices are actually lower than I listed above. At the moment Nordstrom is doing a sale, I'm not sure how long it will last so I decided to put the regular price, instead of the sale price on the items I included from Nordstrom.

So that's it for today, I hope you enjoyed it! Don't forget tomorrow I'll be posting my Over $100 Holiday Gift Guide!
Let me know below what you think!

Lori

December Goals

Hello lovelies, Welcome to Decemeber!!!!! BLOGMAS has officially begun!
This month is going to be crazy busy, I have so much to do, plus so much to catch up on from last month! This week I'll be giving you one book review, one beauty wishlist, and three (technically four) holiday gift guides!

Anyway, before I start rambling, here's this month's goals!

Finish Geometry Part 2.
Finish English 2 Part 1 & Part 2.
Start and Finish Chemistry Part 1.
Be a better blogger.
Send in ALL ACT scores.
Read two books.
Finish any college apps not completed.
Make final decision about WKU.
Start planning and drafting January posts.
Workout two times a week.
Complete BLOGMAS!
Enjoy Christmas!

Finish Geometry Part 2.
This is going to be super easy I don't have much left to do.

Finish English 2 Part 1 & Part 2.
I haven't touched Part 2 yet, but Part 1 is almost done, all I have left is two writing assignments, one speech and a short story!

Start and Finish Chemistry Part 1.
This is going to be a tough task to accomplish, first I have to get one of my other courses closed out so I can start, but I have hope that I'll get it done!

Be a better blogger.
Last month I didn't do as great of a job as I wanted to. I wasn't active on social media and I didn't really connect with any other bloggers, this month I want to be better at that, it's really important to me and I'm making it a priority.

Send in ALL ACT scores.
I really need to get this done, but it's so expensive! I think I'm just going to do a few every week and we'll see how it goes.

Read two books.
Because of my heavy school load this month I'm not expecting to have a lot of time to read, but reading is important to me and it keeps me sane, so I'm going to try to read at least two books.

Finish any college apps not completed.
Right now I only have three college apps that need to be finished, two I have to write an essay for and the other (WKU), I haven't even started yet.

Make final decision about WKU.
I decided last minute that I was going to apply to WKU, I'm still not 100% positive about it, but when I think about it realistically I know it's a good idea and I need to.

Start planning and drafting January posts.
I've already started brainstorming a few ideas, I want to stay ahead and not have another situation like this past summer where I barely blogged.

Workout two times a week.
I want to workout at least twice a week, I'm hoping I can get back to the gym, but if I don't at-home workouts will be fine too.

Complete BLOGMAS!
I REALLY want to finish Blogmas, I'm so excited and I have so many exciting things planned for this month!

Well, that's it for today! What are your goals for December? Let  me know below!
XoXo,
Lori

Pinterest Finds

Hello lovelies, I know it's still November, but I'm going into serious Christmas mode, I'm obsessed! I've already started Christmas shopping, I've got a few presents and I've bought a couple of ornaments, I haven't gone overboard, yet.

The past few Christmases haven't been the best, but this year I'm really feeling it, I have hope that this Christmas is going to be great! I'm determined to make this Christmas special because this is my last Christmas at home, next year I'll be off to college and I won't get to spend the entire holiday season at home

This month I've been wanting to start doing some DIY projects. I've been thinking about getting into crotchet, I tried crotchet as a child, but I could never get into it, so I want to pick it up again and see how it goes. I've been feeling really creative lately, I want to paint, and draw and just do so many things!

Anyway, enough of my rambling about how happy I am, here's what I've found on Pinterest this month!

Okay, so I guess that's it for this month's addition of Pinterest Finds, I've really been trying to limit my time on Pinterest, it's so addicting and time consuming, it's an addiction! Anyway, that's all for today, tomorrow I'll be back with a book review and Wednesday I'll be showing you my Holiday Beauty Wishlist!

Lori

Weight Loss Monday's: Week 46 & 47

Can you believe tomorrow is the last day of the year? And that means today is the last Weight Loss Monday's post of the year. Wow, it's really hard to believe that.
Last week I chose not to make a WLM's post because I didn't think anyone would read it with all of the Holiday celebrations going on last week. Another reason for that is because I'm kinda getting tired of doing this every week since I don't necessarily have something to tell you every single week.
My schedule is really full next month, I think I only like writing one post and then I'll have the entire month filled up, so because of that I don't have room to make any changes quite just yet. But there are changes coming in February, I will announce these changes the last week of January, and I'm really excited to tell all of you about it.
But since I can't tell you anymore right now let's get started with this week's weight update.

Diet: I had three Christmas dinners last week, we went to my Nana's house last Sunday, my Aunt Jane's house on Christmas Eve, and then my mom cooked on Christmas Day. I did eat a little bit more than normal, but I made sure I didn't overeat or get too full.  Last week I was craving chocolate really bad, so I made Oreo truffles, and they were amazing, I still have a few left too.

Exercise: I did get a little bit of exercise last week, but not enough. I've been sick, and I haven't been getting but about 2 hours of sleep at night so I haven't had the energy to do any exercise.

So did I lose any weight?

Weight Lost this week:   1 Pound
Total Weight Loss:        17 Pounds

I lost one pound, I was not expecting it at all. To be honest I actually wrote this post on Saturday, and the scale wasn't showing any difference but when I weighed myself Yesterday I had lost a pound, so I had to rewrite some of this post.
Even if I hadn't lost any weight last week i'd still be happy, I'm leaving the year a very happy girl. I finished my English course last week and I got my grades back, on one of my research papers I got a 90%, and then on my English Midterm I got a 100%, so I'm super happy about that.

That's all for today, tomorrow I'll be posting my Top 4 posts of the year, Wednesday will be my New Years Resolutions, and Thursday will be the Shows I'm Looking Forward to Watching this Winter. So as you can see this week is a full week, and I will be posting everyday, I think that's a great way to start off the new year, and I hope you enjoy it.

Christmas Music Playlist #4

Can you believe there's only a few more days till Christmas? I finally got all of my presents wrapped last night, so I'm offically done. I can't finally sit back, relax, and enjoy the holiday.
I'm actually sad that Christmas is here, I don't want it to end, the reason I love this time of year so much is because everyoe is so happy. During he Christmas season everyone is so much more giving, happy, and just all around joyful.
But for now here's my final Christmas music playlist for his Holiday season.
